L'album ''Wish you were here'' est sorti en septembre 1975, succédant au succès mondial de ''The dark side of the moon'' . Il est considéré par beaucoup de fans, ainsi que par les membres du groupe Richard Wright et David Gilmour, comme leur album préféré de Pink Floyd. Ce film raconte l'histoire de l'enregistrement de cet album essentiel grâce à de nouvelles interviews de Roger Waters, David Gilmour et Nick Mason, mais aussi à des archives du regretté Richard Wright. Participent également Storm Thorgerson le graphiste de la pochette, Roy Harper invité à chanter sur l'album, Ronnie Rondell l'homme en feu qui illustrait la couverture, et autres intervenants impliqués dans la création de ce disque. Enfin, l'ingénieur du son original Brian Humphries réexplore les bandes multipistes aux Studios Abbey Road pour illustrer les différents aspects de la construction des chansons.
